Forest School

smileyWelcome to the Fairview Forest School Pagesmiley

We are very proud of the launch of Forest Schools at Fairview this year and can't wait to start learning in the great outdoors!

On this page, you will find all the latest updates on our adventures and outdoor learning!

Forest School is an inspirational process, that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment.

At Forest School all participants are viewed as:

  • equal, unique and valuable.
  • competent to explore & discover.
  • entitled to experience appropriate risk and challenge.
  • entitled to choose, and to initiate and drive their own learning and development.
  • entitled to experience regular success.
  • entitled to develop positive relationships with themselves and other people.
  • entitled to develop a strong, positive relationship with their natural world.

We are very lucky to have such wonderful grounds to explore at Fairview, and all of our Forest School sessions take place in our Nature Garden.

Meet the Rangers!

The Rangers are a group of children from across the school who are involved with our Outdoor Learning project. They are currently helping Y3 with their outdoor activities and will also be involved in getting the whole school learning outside throughout the year.

Week 2 - This week Hedgehog Class made our very own BFG dream jars using paint, glitter, sparkles and gems.  We thought about what wonderful and weird dreams that could be inside!  We also started tree wrapping and making our own stick men!  Outside the Kent Wildlife Trust taught us how to make our own shelters, it was really fun!

This week we learnt how to make habitats for our toy creatures such as Badgers, Foxes and Squirrels. We had lots of fun doing this! Then, we 'reached for the stars' and created a shooting star out of bits of nature. We also spent some time thinking about the goals that we want to accomplish by the end of the school year. We wished these to come true whilst making our own star. It looked brilliant!
This was our first week in Forest School and we loved it! We learnt how to make a fire and had a go at using flint and steel to make our own mini fires. We were also given some free time where most of us climbed trees! For the rest of the day, we made paintbrushes out of bits of nature. We used these to pain a picture for Fenton, our class mascot. We can't wait until Monday for our next Forest School adventure!

Week 1 - Hedgehog class had loads of fun on our very first Forest School!  We made magic wands, drew observational drawings, made shelters, climbed trees and made animal habitats!  We hope that next week will be just as fun!
