Term 2 - Mysteries of the Maya
Christmas Experience at St Matthew's Church
We had a lovely morning visiting the church to learn more about the Christmas story. Reverend Brian and all of the lovely church volunteers helped us understand many of the misconceptions surrounding the story and challenged us to think beyond the usual 'Christmas nativity'.
A big thank you to everyone at St Matthew's Church.
Giraffes would like to wish everyone a very happy Christmas.
Storytelling With Year 2
Over the last few weeks, we have been working extremely hard and have created some brilliant Maya folktales. We were lucky enough to be able to share these with Year 2 during a storytelling afternoon.
Our stories were inspired by the Maya creation story we heard during our Maya workshop. In our stories, our main characters are the Maya sun god, K'inich Ajaw, and the Maya rain god, Chaak. We tell the tale of how they were created and how gradually jealous and greed consumes the sun god as he wants to be praised by the Maya people on earth.
A big thank you to everyone who contributed to Giraffes' class Christmas hamper; it looked amazing and was a great raffle prize for our Christmas Fair.
We had great fun during our Maya workshop. As well as learning lots about this mysterious ancient civilisation from our special warrior, we also took part in lots of drama, examined artefacts and tasted 'Maya-style' chocolate!
